Fortyfour

THE MISSION

fortyfour is developing an innovative carbon capture technology that captures CO2 directly from the air to boost the growth of plants in greenhouses. Currently, Swiss farmers rely on fossil CO2, but regulators have mandated that this practice becomes illegal by 2040 to achieve climate goals. Today, the situation is already worsening, with farmers experiencing supply shortages and price increases for CO2. Fortyfour's innovative Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) technology alleviates these issues integrating seamlessly into existing greenhouse operations, significantly reducing environmental impact at a competitive price. It operates efficiently at low atmospheric CO2 concentrations, using only electrical energy, eliminating the need for transportation and large intermediate storage tanks.

Pedro and Henry met during the Talent Kick program, excited to work on something that combines sustainability and hardware. After trying out different ideas, they wanted to focus on Carbon Capture through Direct Air Capture and brought in Mathias, who had already built a similar machine in his Master’s thesis.

'Talent Kick was a huge help in getting to know each other better and really helped shape our team through useful exercises and coaching. We aligned our interests, identified a promising niche, and have since secured several letters of intent, along with grants from other programs to support our journey. The Team Coaching sessions were incredibly valuable in finding cohesion and for a strong team, but most importantly, the pitching sessions constantly pushed us to refine and improve our pitch and presentation skills. Each session challenged us to think more clearly about our message and how to connect with our audience.'
